Introduction
“The inability to cope up with any situation, happy or sad, leads to stress.”
Stress attacks us everyday. This can usually be caused by minor problems such as being late for an important appointment, a sudden call from your child in school. It can also be due to major problems such as a transfer, a divorce or even death of a loved one. Most of our physiological and psychological problems are caused due to stress.
What is Stress?
The adrenal glands receive stimulus from the brain to produce two hormones called adrenaline and non-adrenaline for a fight or flight situation.
The pituitary gland in coordination with the brain protects the body by ordering the non-adrenaline to redirect blood flow from the lower priority areas of your body like the skin or abdomen to provide your muscles with the metabolic signal to give you a “power boost.” The whole of your bodily metabolism speeds up at this point, leading to increased breathing, rapid blood circulation, etcetera, when the adrenaline and non-adrenaline stimulus are not initiated properly and when the body is clueless without any signals for decision making, it leads to vomiting or even passing out.
Well, the chemical twins “adrenaline and non adrenaline” are important to protect you from real danger; however, these chemical twins can also lead to stress due to malfunctioning and definitely you don’t need them to cause stress and unhappiness.
How to Control Stress?
The one word answer is “RELAX”
When you are looking in to the world with the spectacles blurred by your emotional situation at any point in time you do not see the world as it is, rather you see it as a reflection of your inner feelings and you are in stress; however, when you learn to control and relax yourselves and work under a relaxed mind set you will be able to see your world as it is and not like how you feel about it.
When you are going to allow your body decide on its own without your own control and let go influence, some of the reactions which are automatically given by the fight and flight mechanisms of the body can be hurting. Whenever you are dealing with any emotional situation you need to take a conscious action to stop being hurt. Each of your automatic response should be guided and expressed by your will power and practical knowledge and not by the influence of the external environment.
“Making a learned response reduces most of the stress.”
A learned response and relaxed approach does not come naturally, you have to teach your brain about how to do it. Though you will not be able to subconsciously remember the learnedness of your reaction, it definitely is documented and put forth voluntarily when required by the body.
“Everything you have ever encountered or done in your entire lifetime is permanently recorded in your subconscious mind.” So, train your brain to respond in a certain way.
There are two states of consciousness, namely
1. Beta – This is our waking state
2. Alpha – First step to the subconscious.
Your conscious mind has the capacity to reason out a said response which would be of use to you. Your subconscious mind is your energy source. Regardless of what you consciously do to instruct your subconscious mind, there is not a single method to permanently override and do the opposite of what the subconscious mind has been programmed and trained to do.
Self Hypnosis:
Self-hypnosis is not very difficult to learn.
There are three tools to self-hypnosis:
- Suggestion
- Concentration
- Imagination.
It is significant that you not try too hard. Self-hypnosis against your will is impossible. If you are going to do it with an analytical attitude it will not work either. The subconscious mind should comply with the suggestions of hypnosis like they were strict orders.
By inhibiting the conscious mind you can reach the subconscious mind directly and you can program the kind of responses you want your brain to be trained with. It is very significant to understand the subconscious programming without the influence of your conscious reasoning to reduce stress.
